Secretary’s Message March 2022

March, 2022

Greetings members,

These past 50 days have been tumultuous to say the least.

From Jan 28th, when the entire staff entered the Club office and created a ruckus till today, the status Quo changes on a daily basis.

With the demands of the Union remaining strident, your Committee has been steadfast in its approach.

What is just and reasonable will be accepted, what monies need to be paid out as per any prior agreement or 12 (3) settlement, will be paid out. This much has been reassured to the Unions and before the Conciliation Officer and Labour Commissioner, in the several meetings that have been held.

However, some elements of the staff have chosen to heap invective against the Committee and all members  of this august institution and intimidate other working staff, in their dharna’s , protests and YouTube videos.

Under these circumstances, the GC is of the firm view that there can be no negotiations conducted that are likely to yield any favourable outcomes to either side.

We have appealed time and again to the Unions to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion and the Additional Labour Commissioner , herself has directed the Unions to act in a manner that will lead to a speedy resolution, which is what the GC wants.

The GC proposes to convene a town hall and seek the opinion of the members, prior to the next Conciliation meeting that has been fixed.

Please rest assured that we are making every effort to bring our staff back to work and establish a rapport with the Union and its leaders which we hope will stand the test of time.

We look forward to meeting all of you very soon.

Hon.Secretary
